Catherine Sani is a Malawian - Ethiopian Architect. Travelling regularly between Malawi and Ethiopia, she currently resides in Lilongwe, Malawi. She graduated with a BA (Hons) Architecture in 2000 obtaining her Royal Institute of Architects (RIBA) Part I exemption and completing her work in practice in the United States of America. She completed her BArch. Post Graduate Degree in Architecture in 2003, (both from the University of Liverpool - UK) thus obtaining her RIBA Part II exemption followed by work in the UK. She obtained her licence to practice architecture in 2009 registered with Malawi's Board of Architects and Quantity Surveyors through the Malawi Institute of Architects (MIA).
A multi-pronged designer, Catherine is Arts inclined and her leisure activities are interrelated with, supplement & feed her career interests. Partial to anthropological, socio-political and urban themed issues, she enjoys writing (+ editing), literature, photography, and loves travelling - visiting museums and historical sites. Having lived in 8 countries in 3 continents, and travelled to a further 9 countries thus far, she holds a world view and her ethos is rooted in the belief that "Architecture is as much about the events that take place in space, as about the spaces themselves."*

As Principal Architect at Liminal Design by Catherine Sani Ltd. - an Architectural Consultancy & Design firm established in 2018, she is currently available for freelance projects, consultancies and collaborations. Liminal Design by Catherine Sani Ltd. is registered with the Malawi Institute of Architects, the Malawi Revenue Authority and registration with the National Construction Industry Council of Malawi (NCIC) is underway.
